"Writer Doris Donnelly tells the story of her great-aunt's voyage to America. Donnelly's grandmother hadn't seen her sister, Greta, who lived in Holland, for 25 years. When she sent money for Greta to immigrate, Greta immediately booked passage on the first steamer out of Rotterdam. Instead of waiting 6 months for better accommodations, she settled for steerage. On the ship was a purser who regularly invited families traveling in the crowded uncomfortable conditions in the lower deck to come to the upper decks during the day. When the purser invited Greta, she refused the offer and spent the two-week voyage on her bunk in the hold of the ship.
When the ship docked in New York, Greta finally came out of steerage to the upper decks and she was amazed at what she saw. There were comfortable, well-appointed areas where travelers could socialize, feast, and enjoy their leisure. More surprising to Greta was the sight of other passengers from steerage who had accepted the invitation. All this could have been hers. too. had she only shown up to receive the gift."
What are you missing staying the same place you are? What are you missing by NOT showing up to see all the glorious things God has planned for you? What are you missing by NOT taking a chance on something new? What are you missing by NOT growing in Spirit so you can go in Christ?
